Kolkata: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, addressing the 16th Joint Commanders’ Conference on Tuesday, called upon India’s armed forces to remain vigilant not only against traditional warfare but also against emerging threats such as information, ideological, ecological, and biological warfare. He emphasised the importance of constantly assessing global turbulence, regional instability, and their impact on India’s security architecture.

Focus On Evolving Security Landscape

Singh underscored that an unsettled international order and fast-changing regional dynamics demand new strategies and continuous preparedness. He urged the services to adapt to the “invisible challenges” of modern conflict, ensuring readiness across conventional and unconventional domains.

The conference, held at Vijay Durg (formerly Fort William), the Eastern Command headquarters in Kolkata, saw the presence of Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, DRDO Chairman Dr Sameer V. Kamat, and other senior officials. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier reviewed border security and operational preparedness in a related meeting with commanders following Operation Sindoor.
