Itanagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held a vibrant roadshow in Arunachal Pradesh’s capital, Itanagar, where people welcomed him by waving the tricolour. Addressing a public gathering later, he criticised the Congress for allegedly neglecting Arunachal Pradesh and the entire Northeast, stressing that his government’s priority is “nation first,” not vote counts.
Congress Accused Of Ignoring Northeast
PM Modi said decades of underdevelopment in the region were the result of Congress’s short-sighted approach. “Arunachal Pradesh is blessed by nature, but the then governments in Delhi ignored the state and its people. They believed that since Arunachal has only two Lok Sabha seats, it wasn’t worth their attention,” he said. Modi emphasised that his government treats the eight northeastern states as “Ashtalakshmi” and has ensured ministers visit the region extensively — more than 800 times so far.
Call For Self-Reliance And Swadeshi
Highlighting the spirit of Arunachal’s people, the Prime Minister noted they say “Jai Hind” even before greeting with “Namaskar,” putting the nation before self. He urged citizens to adopt and promote Swadeshi products, saying, “India will develop only when it becomes self-reliant.” Modi added that he has personally visited the Northeast over 70 times as Prime Minister, aiming to bridge the emotional and developmental gap between Delhi and the region.
