India Announce Test Squad Against West Indies, Shubman Gill Named Captain

New Delhi: The BCCI senior selection committee, chaired by Ajit Agarkar, has announced India’s squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies. Shubman Gill will lead the team, with Ravindra Jadeja appointed as vice-captain.

Key Changes in the Indian Squad

Karun Nair, Sai Sudharsan, and Akash Deep have been dropped, while Devdutt Padikkal makes a return. Injured wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant remains unavailable, so Narayan Jagadeesan has been included as a replacement. All-rounder Axar Patel also returns to the squad.

Series Schedule and Venues

The first Test will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from October 2 to 6, followed by the second Test at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium from October 10 to 14.

Shubman Gill (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Ravindra Jadeja (vice-captain), Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, N Jagadeesan (wk), Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav.

West Indies Squad

Roston Chase (captain), Jomel Warrican (vice-captain), Alick Athanaze, John Campbell, Kevlon Anderson, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Justin Greaves, Shai Hope, Tevin Imlach, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Anderson Phillip, Khary Pierre, Jayden Seales.

India’s Recent Form

India enters the series in strong form, having recently beaten Bangladesh by 41 runs in the Asia Cup Super-4. In Dubai, India defended a 169-run target by bowling out Bangladesh for 127 in 19.3 overs, securing a place in the final.
