Rishab Shetty’s film Kantara: Chapter 1 is currently dominating the box office, receiving overwhelming love from audiences and earning impressive figures since its opening day. Amid the frenzy, the makers have issued a public appeal to fans after several incidents of people imitating sacred characters from the film surfaced online.

Viral Videos Trigger Concern

A video recently went viral showing a fan entering a Tamil Nadu theatre dressed in divine attire. Others were seen recreating the film’s climactic scenes. In response, on Tuesday, the production house released an official statement urging viewers to refrain from imitating the film’s sacred characters in public spaces.

Makers Emphasise Cultural Respect

Produced under the banner of Hombale Films, the statement posted on X read: “For cinephiles and global audiences, Daivaradhane is a profound symbol of faith and cultural pride in Tulu Nadu, Karnataka’s coastal region. Kantara and Kantara: Chapter 1 were created to respectfully depict this devotion and celebrate the glory of the deities. We have worked tirelessly to portray unwavering respect and spread Tulu Nadu’s cultural heritage worldwide.”

The makers expressed gratitude for the film’s immense positive response but cautioned against inappropriate public behaviour. They reminded fans that the ‘Daiva Puja’ shown in the film is a deeply spiritual tradition, not meant for performance or entertainment. Mimicking these sacred rituals can offend Tulu religious sentiments and disrespect cultural heritage.

A Respectful Appeal

Hombale Films concluded by urging the public to avoid imitating or mocking divine characters in cinemas or any public spaces. “We request everyone to uphold the dignity and reverence associated with these sacred traditions,” the statement said.
