Goa: Major developments have emerged in the Goa fire tragedy case as Thailand police have detained Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra in Phuket, acting on a request from the Government of India. The duo, co-owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub, had fled Goa after the incident.
Co-Owner Brought to Goa for Questioning
In a parallel move, nightclub co-owner Ajay Gupta has been brought from Delhi to Goa on transit remand for interrogation. Gupta is a silent partner and investor in the club. Goa Police escorted him to Manohar International Airport, Mopa, on Wednesday night before taking him to the Anjuna Police Station for further questioning.
Fire Safety Violations Under Scrutiny After 25 Deaths
The devastating fire broke out around midnight on December 7 at the Arpora nightclub, killing 25 people, including three workers from Ranchi. Locals allege severe violations of fire safety norms. Earlier, Goa Police had arrested the general manager and three staff members from the site. In 2023, the then village sarpanch and two senior officials were suspended for issuing a trade license to the club, and the sarpanch was taken into custody.
