Mumbai: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has asserted that India has firmly chosen the path of self-reliance and is not acting under pressure from tariffs or economic coercion by any country, while continuing to engage in global trade on its own terms.
Call for Swadeshi and Economic Independence
Addressing a Hindu conference in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, Mohan Bhagwat urged citizens to become self-reliant and prioritize the use of domestically manufactured products. He said foreign goods should only be imported when they cannot be produced within the country, emphasizing that economic choices must strengthen national capability rather than dependence.
India’s Global Outlook Beyond Markets
Bhagwat said some nations view globalization merely as access to global markets, whereas India sees the world as one family. He stressed that India’s engagement with the global economy should be rooted in shared responsibility and mutual well-being, not domination or submission to external pressure.
India as an Idea, Not Just a Geography
The RSS chief underlined that India is not just a geographical entity but an idea shaped by culture, values and character. He said the Hindu society would be questioned by the world on whatever happens to India, highlighting the collective responsibility of preserving national ethos and moral strength.
Strength Defined Beyond Weapons
Explaining the meaning of national strength, Bhagwat said it does not rely solely on weapons or military power, but also on wisdom, ethics, knowledge and adherence to principles. He added that the world looks at India with hope, and the country can make a meaningful global contribution only when it remains strong in character and conviction.
