Patna: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday asserted in Bihar that the removal of infiltrators is not merely an electoral promise but a firm commitment of the Narendra Modi government tied to national security. Speaking near the Nepal border, he emphasised that illegal infiltration poses serious challenges to security, employment, and national resources.

Border Visit and Security Push

Amit Shah visited Lete, located near the India-Nepal border in Bihar, where he inaugurated the Border Out Post (BOP) building of the 52nd Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). He had arrived in Kishanganj on Wednesday evening for a three-day visit and was received at the airport by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, and Road Construction Minister Dilip Jaiswal.

During his address, Shah described border security as a national priority and said that a campaign to identify and deport infiltrators from the Seemanchal region would be launched soon. He stressed that infiltration is not just about voter lists but is a broader issue affecting national security and public resources.

Focus on Open Border and Multi-Layered Security

Highlighting the challenges of securing open borders, particularly along the India-Nepal frontier, Shah said that countries with fenced borders find surveillance relatively easier, whereas open borders demand stronger coordination. He called for a multi-layered security mechanism, robust intelligence networks, and better engagement with local communities.

The Home Minister directed SSB officials to develop clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for border security, curbing illegal encroachments within 10 kilometers of the border, tackling smuggling, and controlling narcotics trafficking. He reiterated that infiltrators would be identified and deported.

Shah also noted that since 2014, the central government has implemented sensitive and comprehensive plans to improve facilities for Central Armed Police Forces. During the visit, he paid tribute to freedom fighter Veer Savarkar on his death anniversary and recalled his nationalist contributions.
