New Delhi: A meeting of the INDIA bloc, the non-BJP opposition alliance, got underway at Constitution Club in Delhi on Monday, bringing together top leaders from 23 political parties to deliberate on a fresh strategy to take on the BJP in the coming days.

Top Leaders Attend in Person and Online

The meeting was attended by senior leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Mamata Banerjee, Derek O’Brien, Akhilesh Yadav, Omar Abdullah, Tejashwi Yadav, and Kapil Sibal, among others. Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray participated via video conferencing.

Meeting Aimed at Patching Up Internal Differences

According to reports, the meeting has been convened particularly to bridge internal differences and rebuild unity within the alliance following recent setbacks, including the defeat of regional partners like TMC and DMK in state assembly elections. Leaders are engaged in brainstorming on how to relaunch their coordinated strategy against the BJP.

DMK, AAP and TVK Skip the Meeting

Notably, three significant parties chose to stay away from the gathering — Stalin’s DMK, Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party, and Thalapathy Vijay’s TVK — a development that raises questions about the cohesion of the opposition bloc ahead of future electoral battles.
