Ranchi: RIMS Director Rajkumar has defended the appointment of his son Rishabh Kumar as a Tutor in Hospital Administration, presenting his position before the Divisional Commissioner who is conducting an inquiry into the controversial appointment on behalf of the Health Department.
Appointment Made in March 2026
Rishabh Kumar was appointed to the post of Tutor in Hospital Administration at RIMS in March 2026. The appointment drew objections under the provisions of RIMS Regulation 2014, with critics pointing out that the state government had not created any sanctioned post for Hospital Administration at RIMS, making the appointment irregular.
Health Department Orders Inquiry
Following the controversy, the Health Department entrusted the investigation into the appointment to the Divisional Commissioner, who in turn directed RIMS Director Rajkumar to present his side of the matter. Rajkumar subsequently appeared before the Divisional Commissioner and submitted his defence.
Director Cites Autonomous Status of RIMS
In his defence, Rajkumar argued that RIMS is an autonomous body declared independent by the state government through legislation, and that the authority to take decisions on appointments and other matters at RIMS rests with the Governing Council. He said the Hospital Management course did not exist earlier at RIMS and was introduced subsequently with the Governing Council’s approval. He further argued that the Governing Council has the legal authority to create posts for RIMS, and that the appointment was made under this very legal mandate.
