Monterrey: Sweden produced a dominant performance to demolish Tunisia 5-1 in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group F opener at Monterrey Stadium in Mexico, moving to the top of the group standings.
Yasin Ayari Scores Twice, Including Stunning Stoppage-Time Strike
Yasin Ayari opened the scoring early in the match with a brilliant strike from outside the box. Alexander Isak then doubled Sweden’s lead with a clinical finish off a superb assist from Viktor Gyokeres. Tunisia’s Omar Rekik pulled one back to make it 2-1, but Sweden remained firmly in control throughout.
Second Half Goals Seal Commanding Win
Sweden continued their dominance in the second half, with Gyokeres and Mattias Svanberg adding further goals before Ayari completed his brace deep into stoppage time with a stunning 25-yard effort to make it 5-1, capping off a dream World Cup debut for the young midfielder.
Sweden Top Group F Standings
The result puts Sweden at the top of Group F with three points, ahead of the Netherlands and Japan, who had earlier played out a draw in their opening fixture. Tunisia finish the opening round of matches at the bottom of the group standings.
