Ranchi: Serious questions have once again been raised over the Home Guard recruitment process at the District Home Guard Battalion, Ranchi, after candidate Royal Tirkey from Itki block filed a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner, alleging repeated changes to the merit list and that dozens of candidates remain deprived of appointment despite a High Court order.
Background of the Case
According to the complaint, Tirkey’s name appeared in the merit list issued under Advertisement No. 1/16 in 2018, but he was not enrolled. Following this, 58 candidates approached the Jharkhand High Court. After the order in WPC 781/2022, 11 candidates were enrolled, while 47 candidates are still awaiting selection.
Fresh Merit List Also Faces Allegations
Tirkey alleged that following Civil Review No. 33/2025, a fresh merit list for candidates from Itki and Nagri blocks was published, but this too was reportedly carried out arbitrarily. The list included 32 candidates while 15 were declared unsuccessful.
Candidates Who Never Filed Petitions Also Called for Enrolment
The complainant alleged that on June 1, 2026, some candidates from the original 2018 merit list who had never filed any petition in court were also declared successful and called for enrolment, raising serious questions about the fairness of the entire selection process.
Allegations Against District Commandant
The complaint alleges that the District Commandant has been preparing fresh merit lists for different blocks based on varying scoring criteria, with candidates claiming that the recruitment process is being run on shifting standards rather than any fixed set of rules, resulting in injustice to eligible candidates.
Demand for High-Level Inquiry
Royal Tirkey has demanded a high-level inquiry into the entire matter from the Deputy Commissioner, along with public disclosure of the merit list determination process and justice for the deprived candidates.
