New Delhi: Intelligence Bureau Special Director Mahesh Dixit has been appointed as the new chief of the Intelligence Bureau, succeeding IB Director Tapan Kumar Deka whose tenure ends on June 30. The central government has appointed Dixit for a two-year term.
About Tapan Kumar Deka
Deka is a 1988 batch IPS officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre who had been serving as IB chief since July 2022. The Modi government had granted him two service extensions during his tenure.
About Mahesh Dixit
Dixit is a 1993 batch IPS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, currently serving as Special Director in the IB. He has previously headed the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB) in Jammu and Kashmir and brings extensive experience in counter-terrorism and intelligence operations. He played a key role in the security arrangements for the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the G20 summit security, and countering disinformation campaigns.
