New Delhi: A petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court over educationist Sonam Wangchuk’s ongoing 17-day hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, with social activist and lawyer Rakesh Kumar Saini warning in his plea that Wangchuk’s life could be at risk within two days if the hunger strike continues.
Petition Seeks Hospitalisation and Force-Feeding
The petition urges the central and Delhi governments to issue appropriate directions to have Wangchuk admitted to a hospital and force-fed, stating that he has already lost around 8.5 kilograms in weight. According to the petition, his blood pressure has dropped to 107/70 mmHg, while his blood sugar level has fallen to 67 milligrams per decilitre. Abhijeet Deepke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, has appealed to the central government to seriously consider the protesters’ demands, who are calling for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Wangchuk’s Health Deteriorates, Under Medical Observation
Wangchuk, who has been lying on a white mattress at the protest site, is currently being examined by a team of doctors. The Cockroach Janta Party had launched the protest following the NEET paper leak controversy, with Wangchuk beginning his hunger strike in support of the movement. He has grown considerably weak, reportedly struggling even to use the washroom and unable to get up without assistance. The party’s protesters have announced a march to Parliament on July 20.
