Pune: Police have registered a case against eight members of a right-wing outfit after a man was allegedly assaulted following a heated argument that broke out over a young girl wearing shorts at Sinhagad Fort near Pune, with the incident taking place near the memorial of military commander Tanaji Malusare on Monday.
Argument Escalates Over Girl’s Clothing Near Historic Site
According to Inspector Rajesh Ramaghare of Haveli police station, a group of individuals from the right-wing outfit objected to the girl wearing shorts on the fort, leading to a heated argument with the complainant that eventually escalated into an alleged assault. Police said the complainant and his family were taking photographs at the site when the accused approached them, questioning their clothing and photography, and reportedly demanded that the family leave the premises.
Complainant Allegedly Slapped, Wife Dragged
The complainant told police that one of the accused slapped him, while a woman in the group allegedly dragged his wife. The officer added that the group also misbehaved with another couple present at the site and attempted to engage in moral policing. Following the complainant’s report to police, an FIR was registered against eight members of the group, including three women.
Similar Complaints Received from Other Visitors
Police said they have received similar complaints from members of three other groups who had visited the fort the previous day, Sunday, suggesting a pattern of confrontations at the site.
Search Launched for Accused
Inspector Ramaghare confirmed that a search has been launched to apprehend the eight accused, including the three women involved, with further investigation currently underway.
