Modi Engages with Jinping While Bypassing Pakistan’s Shehbaz Sharif
Analysts note that summit meetings of this nature offer a rare instance where China, Russia and India appear together on the same platform, something the US does not particularly welcome. In a notable moment, PM Modi was seen exchanging pleasantries with Xi Jinping as the two leaders walked and conversed together, with Modi appearing to bypass Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif, who was standing nearby, as he moved forward alongside Jinping.
Modi Calls for Global Unity Against Terrorism
At the summit, PM Modi called for global unity against terrorism, referencing the Pahalgam terror attack in the presence of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, stating that the entire world had witnessed the ugly face of terrorism. He said clearly that countries offering support to terrorism in any form cannot be accepted, asserting that unified action against terrorism must be a shared responsibility, essential for the good of humanity as a whole.
Summit Themed ‘Together for Sustainable Peace, Development and Prosperity’
This year’s summit carries the theme “Together for Sustainable Peace, Development and Prosperity,” with participation from Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin, Narendra Modi and Masoud Pezeshkian, alongside top leaders from Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
