Indian stock markets extended their losses for a second consecutive session on Thursday, with the Sensex falling 341.98 points to trade around 72,296.72 and the Nifty slipping 110.45 points to 22,492.60.
Weak Start Deepens Through Morning Trade
In early trade, the Sensex had been down 254.02 points at 72,384.68, while the Nifty was off 89.75 points at 22,513.30, before the losses widened.
Only 6 Sensex Stocks in the Green
Of the 30 Sensex shares, just 6 were trading higher while 24 were in the red. TCS led the gainers with a rise of 2.15 percent, followed by Tech Mahindra (1.63%), HCL Tech (1.70%), Infosys (1.55%), Trent (0.78%) and Titan (0.41%).
ITC, Adani Ports Lead the Losers
ITC was the top loser, falling 2.88 percent, followed by Adani Ports (2.31%), Power Grid (1.86%), InterGlobe Aviation (1.62%) and Bharat Electronics (1.40%). Other major stocks trading lower included Bajaj Finserv (1.78%), NTPC (1.40%), Reliance (1.08%), Tata Steel (1.04%), L&T (0.98%), Bajaj Finance (0.91%), Bharti Airtel (0.89%), SBI (0.66%), UltraTech Cement (0.63%), Maruti Suzuki (0.59%), Axis Bank (0.52%), HDFC Bank (0.39%), ICICI Bank (0.37%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (0.23%), HUL (0.75%), Eternal (0.75%) and Mahindra & Mahindra (0.24%).
