Washington: US President Donald Trump has once again made a public pitch for the Nobel Peace Prize, claiming he has ended eight wars and done what no one else has, ahead of the Norwegian Nobel Committee’s announcement of the prize on Friday.
“Nobody Has Done What I Have Done”
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday afternoon, Trump said he was not boasting but simply telling the truth, adding that hardly any president has ended even one war. He said that if he is not honoured, it would be a great embarrassment for the Nobel Committee, remarking that his image is such that they do not give such awards to people like him. He added that he was not saying this out of hatred, and that whether or not he gets the Nobel, he has achieved a great deal.
Compares Himself with Obama
Trump said he deserves the Peace Prize more than former President Barack Obama, adding that he never knew why Obama received it in 2009.
Points to Efforts on US-Iran War
The US President said his peace efforts are continuing, pointing to the US-Iran war and saying he is moving towards ending yet another war.
