Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has asked the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) to file its response within six weeks on a writ petition by Avinash Kumar and others, who were not selected for the 2015 constable recruitment despite clearing all stages, with the next hearing fixed for December 9.
Petitioners Say They Cleared Physical, Medical and Written Tests
Justice Deepak Roshan’s bench heard the petition. Advocate Shekhar Prasad Gupta, appearing for the petitioners, told the court that they had passed the physical, medical and written examinations of the recruitment drive but were still not appointed.

Gupta said JSSC conducted the Jharkhand Constable Competitive Examination 2015 (Advertisement No. 4/2015), with results declared on December 17, 2016. JSSC recommended 4,932 candidates for appointment, after which the government issued appointment letters to 4,892. The exam covered a total of 7,272 posts, and 1,518 seats still remain vacant.
Supreme Court Order Cited
The petitioners’ counsel pointed out that in a related case, a special leave petition had been filed in the Supreme Court by Jitendra Kumar Sharma and others. On August 21, 2026, the Supreme Court ordered the appointment of 862 candidates who were petitioners in that matter. Citing the vacant seats, Gupta urged the court to direct that the present petitioners be appointed against them.
