Jamshedpur, Aug 11: South Eastern Railway on Wednesday sent the 7th Oxygen Express train to Benapole in Bangladesh from Rourkela in Chakradharpur division on South Eastern Railway.

The train left Rourkela carrying 186 tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) in 10 containers.

Railway authorities said the consignment of liquid medical oxygen was sent as requested by the Bangladesh government.

The first Oxygen Express train was sent to Benapole in Bangladesh, originating from Tatanagar on July 24 for the treatment of Covid affected patients in that country.

Till now, seven Oxygen Express trains have been sent to Bangladesh from Tatanagar and Rourkela under Chakradharpur division.

In order to meet the growing demand for Oxygen for treatment of Covid affected patients, South Eastern Railway has been running Oxygen Express Trains since April this year for ensuring quick transportation and smooth supply of liquid Oxygen required for treatment of patients suffering from Covid-19.

Bangladesh is the first overseas country where the consignment of liquid medical oxygen is being sent from India.

During the second Covid wave South Eastern Railway despatched containers carrying liquid oxygen to various parts of the country including Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and New Delhi for saving Covid patients.
