Ranchi, Aug. 17: The Jharkhand High Court quashed the order of Jail IG Manoj Kumar by which the parole period of Enos Ekka was reduced to 30 days from 90 days.

The order came from the court of Justice S.K.Dwivedi after Ekka knocked on the door getting directions to surrender before the court.

A close associate of Ekka, Ashok Bhagat, informed regarding the development in the high court explaining the circumstances under which Ekka had to go for legal remedy.

“Ekka was released from Birsa Munda Central Jail on parole on May 31 on an apex court direction during the second wave of corona pandemic this year.  After he spent 45 days out of jail he got a letter from the Jail IG office informing that his parole period was reduced to 30 days from 90 and accordingly he was directed to surrender. In these circumstances, Ekka had to file a case before the court challenging the order.  Finally, the order of the Jail IG was quashed today,” Bhagat said.

Ekka remained MLA from Kolebira assembly constituency from 2005 to 2014 and he was one of the ministers in the Madhu Koda government in the state from 2005 to 2008. In 2014 a para teacher was murdered in Simdega in which Ekka was made an accused and an FIR was registered against him.

He was convicted on July 3, 2018 in a case of murder of the para teacher. He was awarded life term imprisonment in the case. Apart from this, in February 2020 a special court of CBI awarded him seven years’ rigorous imprisonment.  The Court of Enforcement Directorate also awarded him seven years imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs 2 crore in a money laundering case. Last year he also got parole of 90 days.

The ED has so far confiscated his property worth Rs 150 crore.
