Ranchi, Aug.28: Police today recovered a body from the washroom of a guesthouse of the Social Development Centre on Purulia Road under Lalpur police station.
The deceased was identified as Nicholas, a resident of Chainpur in Gumla district.
Prima facie the matter appeared to be a case of murder but officer-in-charge of Lalpur police station Arvind Kumar Singh said it was the case of suicide.
“Door was broken and opened in my presence. It is a case of suicide,” OC Singh said ruling out any possibility of murder angle in it.
Another police official supported him saying apparently the youth slit his throat by the blade. “We have started probing the reason behind the suicide after sending the body for autopsy. Prima facie it came to the fore that he was mentally depressed,” the police official said.
An insider said Nicholas was on way to Gumla from Koderma. He reached Ranchi at 7pm yesterday from Koderma. His nephew, Vinod, who works in a school close to the SDC provided a guest house to stay.
“In the morning Vinod did not find his uncle coming out from the room till 10.30am, he went inside the room. He did not find his uncle. He went towards the washroom and realised that the door is closed from inside and blood is flowing from there. He informed the police and the police recovered the body,” the insider added.
