Trade union urges Coal minister to pay bonus to 2.58 miners 20 days before Durga Puja

Dhanbad Aug 30: The Rashtriya Colliery Mazdoor Sangh (RCMS)   has asked the Coal minister and the Labour minister to pay the bonus to Coal India Limited (CIL)  miners 20 days before Durga Puja in the wake of their outstanding performance during the Corona pandemic.

RCMS general secretary AK Jha on Monday in his mail memorandum to the two central ministers has asked them to direct the Coal India Limited (CIL) management for paying a bonus to  2.58 lakh miners who put their life at stake for the production of coal in national interest during Corona pandemic.

Among 2.58 lakh workforce of CIL, 1.75 lakh miners belong to Jharkhand based Central Coalfield Limited (35,000) Ranchi,  Bharat Coking Coal Limited ( 38,000) Dhanbad and Eastern Coalfield Limited (72,000).

“ Since  Coal India Limited has gained profit and registered record production of coal, the coal ministry should decide bonus payment as soon as possible as miners have high expectation this time,” said the RCMS general secretary, who is also vice-president of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC).

The RCMS  has also urged the central ministers to pay bonuses to contractual labour and outsourcing companies miners at par with regular workers of CIL as they have equal contribution in the production of coal.
