Ranchi, Aug.31: Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centre (AMC) has become operational at Bhagwan Mahavir MEDICA Superspecialty Hospital (BMMSH) in the Jharkhand capital.

Recognized by Pharmacovigilance Program of India (PvPI), Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and Government of India, AMC at BMMSH will be of great help to study ADRs which are recognised as a common cause of hospital admissions, and they constitute a significant economic burden for hospitals. Apart from this, it will also be of great help to identify and quantify the risks associated with the use of drugs provided in a hospital setting.

Inauguration celebration was marked on Monday evening with the ribbon-cutting ceremony by dean of Rajendra Institute of Medical Science, Dr. Satish Chandra, in presence of Clinical director of Kolkata based Peerless Hospital Dr. Subhrojyoti Bhowmick and Dr. Anoob Razak from WHO virtually.

Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Vijay Kumar Mishra, on the occasion underlined the importance of the programme.

“We are proud that our Hospital got recognized as AMC under MoH&FW, GoI, this will bring a great change in the state regarding the detection, reporting & management of ADR which were till now under-reported,” Dr Mishra said.

Head of department of Clinical Pharmacology and AMC Coordinator, Dr. Asish Kumar Saha,  requested all the hospitals across the state to report the ADR occurring at their hospital to MEDICA.

“It’s a matter of great responsibility and  trust bestowed upon us by the  MoH&FW, GoI, we are confident enough that we could make a great change in the segment of Patient & Medication Safety by reporting the ADR occurring in our hospital and I also request all the hospital across the state of Jharkhand to come up and report the ADR occurring at their hospital to us, so that we could send the same to the National Coordination Center, PvPI, IPC, thus creating more safety data of our medical product indigenously and reducing the dependency on western countries,” Dr Saha said.

Dr. Sana, Consultant-Critical Care & Dy. Coordinator of AMC said the programme will encourage the clinicians to report ADR.

“It’s a great honour for me to be a part of this great movement of Patient Safety, this will definitely encourage the clinicians to come forward and report the ADR experienced by their Patients,” Dr Sana said.
