Ranchi Sept. 4: The BJP, the main opposition party in the State, has demanded a Hanuman temple in the premises of the state assembly.
The demand came after Speaker Rabindranath Mahto allotted a place for offering Namaz.
Former minister and Ranchi MLA CP Singh raised the demand during a press conference at the party office before saying that the speaker is doing politics of appeasement.
He said the assembly is a temple of democracy but the speaker provided space for prayer to a particular community.
He said the BJP believes in equality in all religions and is not against offering Namaz but the way the space has been provided is not healthy for democracy.
Demanding a temple, Singh said it will help empower Hindu MLAs and other Hindu assembly staff. He said that the party is ready to fund the construction of the temple if a space is provided for the purpose.
JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya in reaction to this demand alleged the BJP of communalising the issue saying that the party should have raised the demand before the Speaker silently instead of making it a big issue.
