DMK functionary and ex-MLA Veerapandi Raja passes away of heart attack

Salem, Oct 2.: In a terrible incident, ruling DMK functionary and former MLA Veerapandi Raja died on his birthday, on Saturday morning after suffering a heart attack.

According to police sources, former MLA Veerapandi, who is also the son of late DMK Salem strongman and former Minister Veerapandi S Arumugahm, was preparing for the birthday celebration when he collapsed. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Raja was a member of the DMK’s electoral committee. Hundreds of DMK cadres flocked to his home to pay their final respects. His death was mourned by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M K Stalin.

Stalin recalled his meeting with him two days prior during his visit to Salem in his condolence message, saying he could not forget his joyful face. Raja had served in many capacities in the party, he added, and he expressed his sympathies to the dead family members.
