TMC chief Mamata Banerjee has won the by-election from Bhabanipur assembly seat in West Bengal. CM Mamta has defeated BJP candidate Priyanka Tibrewal by 58,832 votes. CM Mamta got 84,709 votes after 21 rounds of counting.

The TMC is also ahead in Murshidabad’s Samserganj and Jangipur constituencies, where votes are being counted for the assembly elections.

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has congratulated Mamta Banerjee. He said that this is the victory of Mamta didi, that is the ritual of Satyamev Jayate.

“I have won the Bhabanipur Assembly bypolls with a margin of 58,832 votes and have registered the victory in every ward of the constituency. I thank all the voters for the win. This is for the first time that we have not lost in a single ward in Bhabanipur,” Banerjee said greeting supporters outside her residence in Kolkata.
She added that she will continue to work for the people.

The Election Commission has asked the West Bengal government to ensure that there is no celebration of victory or any procession during or after the counting of bypolls. In view of the corona epidemic, the commission has given this direction by writing a letter to the Mamta government. Along with this, the commission has also asked to keep a watch that there is no violence after the elections.

Tight security arrangements have been made for the counting of votes for the assembly by-elections in West Bengal. 24 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed near the counting complex in Kolkata. The voting for the by-election was held on 30 September. Election Commission officials had said that till 5 pm, 53.32% polling was recorded in Bhawanipur seat. Shamsherganj seat and Jangipur seat of Murshidabad district witnessed 78.60% and 76.12% voting respectively.
