New Delhi: BJP MPs staged a protest within the Parliament complex on Tuesday before proceedings began, holding placards and raising slogans against the AAP-led Bhagwant Mann government, demanding the resignation of Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains over the paper leak issue, even as Mann has denied that any examination paper was leaked in the state.
Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha Proceedings Adjourned Till 2 PM
Disruptions began as soon as Lok Sabha proceedings started on Tuesday, with opposition members rushing into the well of the House and raising slogans against the government. Discussion on the paper leak-related bill had been scheduled for the day, with all parties having reached consensus on the matter the previous day, Monday. However, the disruption continued, prompting Speaker Om Birla to appeal to opposition members to allow the House to function, stating that Question Hour should not be disrupted and that discussion on the bill should proceed, with both sides jointly deciding the duration. As the uproar persisted, Birla adjourned proceedings until 2 PM.
Rajya Sabha Also Faces Disruption, Business Listed Amid Chaos
The Rajya Sabha similarly witnessed disruptions from the opposition as soon as proceedings began, with listed business taken up amid the chaos before Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan also adjourned the House until 2 PM.
Discussion on Paper Leak Bill Expected to Resume This Afternoon
Discussion on the paper leak bill is expected to begin in the Lok Sabha from 2 PM, following consensus reached between the treasury and opposition benches the previous day. The Speaker has allotted six hours for discussion on the bill.
