New Delhi, Oct.6: The Union Cabinet approved a plan to build seven integrated textile parks throughout the country with a total investment of Rs 4,445 crore over five years on Wednesday.

After the cabinet meeting, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal told reporters that the PM MITRA (mega integrated textile region and apparel parks) initiative will make it easier to build up parks on both greenfield and brownfield sites in states that are interested.

He stated that ten states have expressed interest in establishing the parks, despite the fact that the government is in talks with all the states about the plan.

#PMMitra4Textiles pic.twitter.com/osFzhJt1qH

According to official sources, the parks’ construction will directly employ roughly seven lakh people while indirectly employing another 14 lakh.

MITRA parks will be established through the use of special purpose vehicles (SPVs), which will be jointly owned by state and federal governments under a public-private partnership (PPP) framework.

Goyal stated that the central government will provide greenfield parks with Rs. 500 crore in funding, while brownfield parks will receive Rs.200 crore.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Textiles, the parks will have incubation centres, plug-and-play facilities, road connectivity, wastewater systems, warehousing facilities, and worker hostels.
