Ranchi, Oct.6: Chief Minister (CM) Hemant Soren today inaugurated Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) oxygen generating plants of 100 liter per minute capacity at Sadar Hospital and COBAS 6800 at only state-run super specialty centre, Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
COBAS 6800 is a fully automated, high-end machine for performing Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) testing for Covid-19.
The CM was also expected to inaugurate PSA oxygen plant of 1900 per liter minute capacity and 256 Slice CT scan machine besides a Central laboratory but due to some dispute created by Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth over taking credit of the work the CM returned after inaugurating COBAS 6800 machine. Later, health minister Banna Gupta completed the incomplete assignment of the CM.
RIMS Director Dr Kameshwar Prasad was happy with the inauguration saying it has improved the readiness of RIMS to face the third wave of the pandemic if it comes.
256 Slice CT is a great way to diagnose any disorder or malfunctioning related to the heart and has been beneficial to numerous patients in the world. Talking about the importance of the 256 slice CT scan machine, Dr Prasad said that it can scan lungs in just two seconds. About the importance of installation of COBAS 6800 machine, he said “it will test 2500 samples in three hours while earlier we were facing difficulties in testing even 200 samples in three days.”
Apart from the inauguration of equipment, laboratory and machines in Ranchi, as many as 27 PSA plants were also inaugurated online by the health minister on the occasion across the state.
Speaking on the occasion, health minister Gupta expressed his commitment to the improvement of the health system in the state and said he wants to create such an atmosphere where those associated with the medical fraternity can work with excellence without any fear. He expressed his commitment for the proper attention to the problem of multipurpose health workers, nurses, Sahiyas besides doctors and specialists.
Additional chief secretary cum principal secretary of health department Arun Kumar Singh echoed Gupta sharing the steps taken by the state to improve health machinery.
“Today as many as 27 PSA plants were inaugurated using the PM Care Fund across the state. After the installation of COBAS machines, our testing capacity has increased. The number of laboratories in the state has increased to 12 from five and the establishment of three more is in the process. As far as vaccination is concerned, 1.82 crore have got the first dose of vaccine and 0.42 crore have got the second dose. We have 13000 oxygen-supported beds right now and its number will soon increase to 21000 by October 15. Three districts have got new buildings for three hospitals. We are planning to improve the OPD and Indoor patient service of RIMS. The plan is afoot to improve the infrastructure of MGM, Jamshedpur. For the appointment of doctors, rules have been relaxed. The path has been paved for admission to 100 seats at Medical college in Dumka. Soon the path will be paved for admission in medical colleges at Jamshedpur and Hazaribagh,” he said.
