Jamshedpur, Oct 11: Timely intervention by a railway cop saved the life of a 40-year-old man near the Tatanagar station late on Sunday night.

The man later identified as Chaturbhuj Shukla had already laid on the railway track for committing suicide.

Chaturbhuj who is a resident of Radhika Nagar in Kharangajhar, Telco wanted to take the drastic step after being scolded by his father on Sunday evening.

Having rescued the man, a team of Railway Protection Force (RPF) summoned his father Uma Shankar Shukla and handed him over this morning.

Revealing about the incident, inspector, RPF, Tatanagar, Sanjay Kumar Tiwari said that one of the RPF constables, Rahul Kumar Vishwakarma was posted at the Parcel office at the platform No 1.

“At about 10.30 pm, the constable saw a middle-aged man moving suspiciously on the plate No 1. Sometime later he saw the man went over to an unlit portion of the station and lying on the railway track.  Realising that man might commit suicide by coming under the wheel of any train, the constable reached the spot along with three more constables and prevented the latter from committing suicide, ” said Tiwari.

The RPF inspector said as the man’s mental condition was not good, they provided him the necessary counselling at the RPF post the whole night and when he returned to normalcy, they called in his father to the RPF post. He said they handed Chaturbhuj to his father.

Uma Shankar Shukla who is a retired company employee said his son is the father of two children but is still unemployed.

“I had scolded Chaturbhuj as he used to drink excessive liquor and used to create violence scenes at the home, ” said the elderly man adding that his son has become a problem for his family.
