Panchkula, Oct.12: The level of punishment for Dera Sacha Sauda founder Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who was convicted last week for the murder of former sect manager Ranjit Singh in 2002, will be decided by a special CBI court in Panchkula on Tuesday.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been issued in Haryana’s Panchkula district ahead of the verdict.

“Section 144 is applicable today due to the fear of loss of life and property, causing any tension in the district, disturbance of peace, and riots as a result of the announcement of punishment of five offenders, including Ram Rahim,” said DCP Mohit Handa.

The court will sentence five accused, including Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who will appear through video conferencing from Rohtak’s Sunaria jail. At the special CBI court in Panchkula, accused Krishan Lal, Avtar, Sabdil, and Jasbir will be physically present for the sentencing.

According to the CBI charge sheet, the Dera chief suspected Ranjit Singh of being behind the anonymous letter’s distribution and plotted his assassination.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was sentenced to 20 years in jail for raping two of his disciples in 2017. Over two years ago, the sect’s leader was sentenced to life in jail for the murder of Ram Chander Chhatrapati, a journalist.
