Lucknow, Oct.18: In response to the ‘rail roko’ agitation organised by farmers demanding the dismissal and arrest of Union Minister Ajay Misra in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, prohibition orders prohibiting the assembling of people (Section 144) were enforced in Lucknow on Monday.

The Lucknow Police Commissioner stated in an order that individuals who engage in anti-national activity would face severe consequences. In Lucknow, cops were stationed outside the homes of agricultural union officials.

If someone attempted to disrupt normalcy, Lucknow Police claimed they would use the harsh National Security Act (NSA).

All train travel would be stopped for six hours on Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farmers’ unions driving the agitation against the farm regulations.

“To press for its demand for MoS Home Ajay Misra’s dismissal and arrest, so that justice can be secured in the Lakhimpur Kheri massacre, Samyukt Kisan Morcha has announced a nation-wide Rail Roko program…the SKM asks for this action to be taken up peacefully, without any destruction and damage of any kind to any railway property,” the SKM said.

Eight people, including four farmers, were killed on October 3 as violence erupted during a farmers’ protest in Lakhimpur Kheri.

Farmers’ groups report that a car transporting Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Misra’s son Ashish collided with a crowd of demonstrators. On October 9, Ashish Misra was detained in connection with the case. However, Ashish has stated that he was not in the vehicle at the time of the collision.
