Dehradun, Oct 19: Around 24 people have died due to incessant rains in Uttarakhand. Maximum casualties are from the Nainital district, said Uttarakhand DGP, Ashok Kumar on Tuesday.

“So far 24-25 people are dead due to incessant rains, in which maximum casualties are from Nainital. Around 200 people were stuck at Lemon Tree Resort, they all have been evacuated safely,” said the DGP.

The Uttarakhand Chief Minister conducted an aerial survey of areas affected due to heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, Nainital has been cut-off from the rest of the state as three roads leading to the town have been blocked following landslides. The Mall Road in Nainital and Naina Devi temple located along the banks of Naini lake have been flooded. The CM appealed to the people to be patient as the government is doing what all possible things need to be done.

“Due to heavy rains, the rescue team is facing difficulty but we will rescue everyone. The meteorological department has also said that from today the rain will be less, so we appeal to all the people to not travel till the situation is normal,” added CM Dhami.

Notably, the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted a significant reduction in rainfall activity from Tuesday in the state.
