Sahebganj, Oct 24: The six member enquiry committee constituted by the civil surgeon of Sahebganj district, Dr Arvind Kumar reached Barharwa block headquarters on Sunday. The committee started probe into the alleged vision loss at the local private hospital where nearly half a dozen people had undergone cataract surgery about a fortnight ago.

The management of the private hospital, Jharkhand Sewa Sadan Nursing Home has taken at least ten such patients to Kolkata and nearby Malda district, headquarters of Bengal for  treatment of their vision loss.

Sources said that nearly 1200 cataract patients have so far undergone the eye surgery at the said nursing home which started functioning from December this year. Most of the patients were the beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat Yojna of the central government which is meant for the poorest of the poor people.

Borio (Sahebganj) JMM MLA, Lobin Hembrom said that altogether nine victims of vision loss have approach him on Saturday. This victim had undergone the cataract surgery in the same Barharwa based private hospital and belongs to Chashganwa village of his constituency.

“I directed the management of the said hospital to ensure improvised treatment for the recovery of the victims who have all are being shifted to Ranchi based Kashyap Eye Hospital” Hembrom said adding that the number of such cases might be more.

Earlier, on Saturday the rural development minister Alamgir Alam had also referred four patients belonging to his constituency (Pakur) to outside hospitals to ensure recovery of their lost vision.

Notably, all the victims were operated in the private hospital between October 5 and October 7 by a Bengal based consultant eye surgeon Dr H K Vishwash.

“We will submit the probe report to the the Civil Surgeon within the stipulated 24 hours period” Dr Thomas Murmu, said the district tuberculosis officer of Sahebganj. Dr Thomas heads the enquiry committee constituted by the Civil Surgeon on Saturday on such behest of the health minister Banna Gupta.
