Fuel rates surge for third day in row, petrol in Mumbai crosses Rs.114 mark

New Delhi, Oct.29: Petrol prices rose to new all-time highs on Friday, October 29 for the third day in a row. According to Indian Oil Corporation, petrol and diesel prices in the national capital have risen 35 paise to Rs.108.64 and Rs.97.37 per litre, respectively.

Petrol is currently 37.52% more expensive than the price at which aircraft can buy aviation turbine fuel (ATF or jet fuel). ATF costs Rs. 79,020.16 per kilolitre in Delhi, or about Rs.79 per litre.

In Mumbai, a litre of petrol costs Rs.114.47 rupees, while diesel costs Rs.105.49 rupees. Petrol prices in Chennai have risen past 105 mark and are now selling at Rs.105.43 per litre, while diesel prices are at Rs.101.59 per litre.

According to the state-run oil refiner, Mumbai has the highest fuel prices of the four metro cities. Because of the value-added tax, or VAT, fuel prices vary by state.

On Friday, oil prices fell slightly around the world. The price of Brent crude fell 0.02 percent to $83.88 per barrel. The price of US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell 0.04 percent to $82.78.
