New Delhi, Nov.1: Rakesh Tikait, the farmer leader, warned the government today that if the controversial farm laws are not repealed by November 26, protests at the Delhi border will escalate. As the farmer movement against agrarian laws approaches a year, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader issued a new warning.

“The central government has until November 26, after which farmers will arrive at the border at protest sites around Delhi by tractors from villages and strengthen the protest site with robust fortifications,” he stated on Twitter.

#FarmersProtest

In the last two days, he has issued two warnings to the centre. Tikait had warned the government on Sunday that attempting to forcibly remove the demonstrators from the Delhi borders would result in retaliation.

“If the farmers are forcibly removed from the borders, government buildings across the country will be turned into Galla Mandi (grain markets),” he had warned.

“We’ve learned that the administration is attempting to dismantle the tents here. Farmers would pitch tents around police stations, DM offices, and other government buildings if this happens,” he added.

Thousands of farmers have been protesting since November 26 last year at the three border sites of Tikri, Singhu, and Ghazipur, arguing that the three laws passed last year are against their interests. The centre, on the other hand, has argued that these laws are pro-farmer.

The Centre and the farmers have held multiple rounds of discussions, but the impasse persists.
