Hyderabad: The central government has denied Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy permission to visit the United States, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) confirmed on Friday, forcing him to cut short his international itinerary and return directly to Hyderabad.
Reddy’s Boston Leg Cancelled, Forced to Return Early
Reddy is currently in London and had planned to travel to Boston before returning to Hyderabad on August 30. With permission for the US leg denied, he will now be compelled to return directly to Hyderabad on August 23 instead.
Telangana CMO Alleges Political Motive Behind Denial
According to the Telangana CMO, the Telangana Rising delegation led by Reddy has had its US visit cancelled, with the office alleging that the Ministry of External Affairs refused clearance on political grounds. Reports indicate that the Telangana government had sought approval from the Centre for both the UK and US legs of the trip as per protocol, but only the UK visit was cleared. The Centre reportedly informed the delegation of the US visit’s denial only after they had already arrived in the UK.
Reddy’s Planned Itinerary Included Harvard, MIT and Congressional Event
Revanth Reddy had arrived in London on August 20, with engagements scheduled at Oxford, Cambridge, University of London and London Business School. He was set to depart for the US on August 24, with visits planned to Harvard University and MIT. His itinerary also included discussions with a Virginia Tech team in Boston on August 25, followed by participation in an event organised by the US chapter of the Indian Overseas Congress in New York on August 26.
