Daltonganj, Nov.24: Ranka police under Garhwa district today handed down smartphones to four students of the government high school. The recipients belong to poor families but are meritorious students.

SDPO Sudarshan Kr Astik informed that the recipients are Arti Kumari and Jogender Singh of the Goseydaag Upgraded High School while the other two Arun Kumar and Sohana Khatoon are the students of the Upgraded Plus 2 Urdu high school, Bandu Chutru.

Inspector Ramji Mahto and officer in-charge R. Upadhaya oversaw the distribution of the smart phones. The four recipients for the time being, will have their own SIM cards and will submit it to their respective schools for the benefit of other students after passing their matric examination.

DGP Jharkhand Neeraj Sinha and his team had launched this campaign of providing smartphones to students as part of shortening the digital divide between the rich and the poor students. Another motive was that this will inculcate a sense of belongingness among the students for people in uniform.

Police sources said the Simdega district police made a spectacular performance on this front where SP Shams Tabrez made it a point to provide as many smartphones to students as possible.

Ranka police station has become the first such police station in Palamu police range to carry out this campaign.

Palamu police range has 3 districts namely Garhwa, Latehar and Palamu.  However, Latehar and Palamu are yet to open its account for this campaign.
