New Delhi, Nov.25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for Noida International Airport, commonly known as Jewar Airport today.

The airport’s construction has commenced, and operations will begin in 2024. Uttar Pradesh will have five international airports once it is operational, the most of any Indian state.

The ruling BJP is on an inaugural spree ahead of the important Uttar Pradesh Assembly election due for early next year. The government anticipates a boost to the region’s economy with the opening of the Jewar airport.

The predicted economic benefits of Noida International Airport have been emphasised by both the central and state governments. Officials estimate that the airport will generate investments of Rs 10,000 crore for the surrounding areas in the first few years.

The airport, which is 72 kilometres from Delhi’s IGI Airport and 40 kilometres from Dadri’s multi-nodal logistics hub, is intended to help the state’s economy.

The cargo services at the airport are projected to benefit Noida significantly.

In the next years, the government expects traffic from Delhi’s airport to be diverted to Jewar airport. “A traffic of 12 million passengers per year is envisaged in the first phase,” Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal stated adding, “and by the completion of the final phase, i.e. between 2040 and 50, the capacity of Jewar airport will be 70 million passengers per year.”
