Ranchi, Dec 6: The Welfare department of Jharkhand government, through the e-Kalyan Scholarship, is taking steps to ensure that education of poor children is not interrupted due to financial problems.

1 lakh 7,000 students from across the district have applied for post-matric scholarships in Ranchi as of Friday. The colleges have approved the applications of approximately 84,000 students. The District Welfare Department has approved 74,000 of the 84,000 applications received.

Last year, during Covid, the scholarship application procedure and payment were delayed. This year, though, the department is focused on processing applications as quickly as possible. According to the information, the government is attempting to pay 50% of accepted applications by December 20.

This year, the government has released the allocation for the Scheduled Tribes for the payment of scholarship. A scholarship of Rs 45 crore will be paid among scheduled tribe students from across the district. At the same time, 30 crore allocations are available with the department for other backward classes. At present, the allocation for the Scheduled Castes has not been given by the government.

According to reports, the Central Government’s Scheduled Caste Commission is considering making direct payments to all students in the class. The centre will grant direct scholarships to the youngsters based on a list of students provided by the department. As a result, the department has not yet received any funding for this category.

The online application gateway for the e-Kalyan scholarship was opened on July 26 this year, and students could apply through September. Many were unable to apply due to delays in the college admissions process. As a result, the department extended the deadline for applications until October 30 which was again extended till November 30. Now, the deadline for applications has been extended to December 11 in order to allow more students to benefit from the scheme.
