Dhanbad, Dec 15: Postgraduate (PG) and diploma holder doctors of Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) Ranchi and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH)  Jamshedpur who have just finished their degree, have been deployed at various medical colleges and Sadar hospitals of different districts under a bond of one year.

Alok Trivedi, additional secretary, Jharkhand government, has issued a notification in this regard according to which total 116 PG/ diploma pass doctors of RIMS and MGMMCH have been appointed at all five medical colleges of the state (barring RIMS) under a bond with the government.

According to the bond, MBBS doctors who graduate from state medical colleges must serve in the state for three years after completing their course. If a passed-out doctor fails to follow this condition, he or she will be fined between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh.

Notably in 2018, the Jharkhand government accepted the condition (one year of service) in line with the rest of the country. The tenure for mandatory service of doctors in the state was extended for three years last year (2020).

“Since the state is reeling under acute shortage of doctors, this has been (bond for service) done to retain medicos in the state for a long period,” said a senior official of the health department medical education wing.

Among the deployed 116 doctors, Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital  Hazaribagh has got the highest number of doctors (19) followed by Mahatma Gandhi Medical College Hospital, Jamshedpur and Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital, Dumka (13 each).

Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital, Dhanbad has been given 10 doctors and Medinirai Medical College Hospital Palamu has 9 doctors.
Apart from this, 19 doctors have been deployed in Sadar hospitals of districts across the state.

As per the notification of the state government, the selected doctors have to give their joining at the designated medical colleges/ Sadar hospital of the districts within a week.
