Dhanbad, Dec 21: Four-member team of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Institute of  Malaria Research (NIMR) returned to Delhi via Ranchi today after conducting a five days survey of malaria prone blocks of Dhanbad.

The team under Dr Rajesh M Rao inspected remote Topchchi, Tundi, Baliapur blocks and Jharia circle and collected samples of malaria, filarial and chikungunya mosquito for the test at the national lab. The sources said the central team got the above- mentioned mosquito in large numbers in the Jharia circle.

Dr Rajesh M Rao told media persons anti- filarial drugs would be administered to 20 lakh people of Dhanbad in February. The micro plan for all blocks of the district is being prepared by the central team. The drug would protect the people from the filarial ailment.
The team also made a spot assessment of the Mass Drugs Administration (MDA)  campaign launched in Dhanbad from February 20 to February 27 and prepared videography of different vulnerable villages regarding how many villagers were administered and how many skipped.

“ Our team covered almost all malaria-prone areas. During the assessment malaria patients were found in large numbers in the area where people were not covered under mass drugs administration. Now in the new drive, the people would be administered house to house where they missed in the February 21  campaign,” said Dr Rao.

District Malaria Officer Dr Sudha Singh, district consultant Ramesh Singh coordinated the central team in visiting malaria-prone pockets of the district and collected samples of mosquitoes.

Sources in the district health department said that inspection of the central team would expose the health workers for showing a fake report of administrating drugs under an anti-malaria, filarial campaign in Dhanbad.
