Director Of Emmy winning ‘Big Little Lies’ Jean-Marc Vallee passes away

Los Angeles, Dec 27: The Canadian writer, director, editor and producer who won Emmy Awards and a DGA Award for Big Little Lies, Jean-Marc Vallee  died suddenly on Monday at the age of 58.

The Deadline report said that the director died at his cabin near the Canadian city of Quebec. However, as per Variety, the cause of death was not immediately known.

Jean-Marc Vallee began his career in the mid-1980s with music videos as a native of Montreal. His film career began in the early 1990s with critically acclaimed short films such as Stereotypes and Les Fleurs magiques. In 1995, he made his feature film debut with Black List, a thriller. He was a well-known director prior to Dallas Buyers Club, but it was with this Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto, and Jennifer Garner starrer that his career took off.

In 2017 he received the DGA Award and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for the HBO Limited Series Big Little Lies, which he also executive produced. In total the series won eight Emmys and four Golden Globes. He also directed and executive produced the HBO limited series Sharp Objects, which was nominated for eight Emmys.

Vallee last feature film was 2015’s Demolition. After his film career, he went on to have a successful stint in television with the aforementioned HBO shows.
