Ranchi, Jan.7: The District administration allegedly distributed expired medicines to a section of patients in home isolation waiting for getting cured of Covid-19 infection.

The medicine which was allegedly distributed after expiry date in the medicine kit is Levosizm Tablet 15’s (Levocetirizine), which belongs to a class of drugs called antihistamine or anti-allergic. It treats sneezing, runny nose, and allergic skin due to various allergies and hay fever (seasonal allergy).

The medicine whose expiry date printed on it is November 11, 2021 was distributed after the third wave of corona pandemic hit the state and thousands of Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms went in home isolation. Each patient was asked to take the medicine for 10 days.

Additional chief secretary Arun Kumar Singh, who himself is in home isolation, assured proper action when informed about the irregularities.

“We are getting it enquired and shall ensure strict action against delinquent persons,” Singh said.

A Sadar Hospital insider informed that the primary investigation suggested carelessness on the part of district programme manager Samresh Kumar. However, the insider said, a probe is being done into the matter.

District civil surgeon (CS) Vinod Kumar said he has not got any complaint from any patient in this regard. He, however, said mistakes might have taken place while changing the medicine from the old kit.

Deputy commissioner Chhavi Ranjan through a press release echoed the same expressing his concern. He assured lawful action into the matter. But in the same release, the deputy commissioner quoted Sadar Hospital management saying the same medicine was not distributed among patients in home isolation.

DC Ranjan quoting the Sadar Hospital management said that in the medicine kits which were distributed from today this medicine has not been given and even if anyone gets the same by mistake should not take the same. The DC in his release also quotes Sadar Hospital management saying that SDO Bundu Ajay Kumar is looking into the matter and he will take action against erring persons.
