Ranchi, Jan 10: Two months after the coaching institutes started offline classes for students in the district, the new curbs of state government have forced them to switch back to the virtual model once again.

The offline coaching classes are new in the field of virtual mode whereas big companies such as Byjus, Vedantu and Xtra marks have proved themselves as professionals in the field. Hence, the small institutes are facing issues to compete with such big firms.

Coaching institutions have expressed dissatisfaction over the state government’s decision to close all educational institutions saying that it would hit their business which was already on the downslide over the past two years.

Joint secretary of Jharkhand Coaching Institutions, SD Mishra said that while the government has allowed malls, hotels and bars to operate, it has taken a different attitude towards the coaching institutions.

“Though several institutions are running online classes, it is not an alternative to offline classes. Several students, particularly from the rural areas, drop out because of poor connectivity during the online classes,” Mishra said.

State secretary of the Coaching Federation of India Ritesh Singh said that a number of coaching institutions in Ranchi have closed down due to financial constraints affecting the livelihood of around 1.5 lakh teachers and staff engaged in various coaching institutions.

He demanded that coaching institutions be allowed to function at 50% capacity and said that the world of virtual mode is quite different from the physical one and the small institutions will not be able to compete with the big tech giants who have bigfoot in the virtual model of education.
