New Delhi, Jan 12: The Supreme Court will pronounce its order on Wednesday on the formation of a committee led by a retired top court judge to investigate the security breach that occurred during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab on January 5. The order would be issued by a bench led by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana.

On Monday, the Supreme Court said that an impartial committee led by a former top court judge would be formed to probe the security failure during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab on January 5. The Committee will, however, include the DGP Chandigarh, the IG National Investigation Agency, the Registrar General of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, and the ADGP (security) of Punjab. In the meantime, the Bench asked both the Central government and the Punjab government to not go ahead with the inquiries by the Committees constituted by them.

Notably, PM Modi was stuck on a flyover in Punjab for 15-20 minutes on his route to Ferozpur on January 5 due to a roadblock by some protesters, an occurrence the Union Home Ministry termed as a “serious breach” in his protection. When the incident occurred, the prime minister was on his way from Bathinda to the National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala. The PM’s convoy opted to return to Bathinda airport after a severe security failure during his tour in Punjab.
