Dhanbad, Jan 12: Dhanbad MP P.N. Singh has written a letter to the National Medical Commission (NMC) for reinstating 100 MBBS seats to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) at par with other medical colleges of the state.
In his letter which he shot off today, the three times MP has expressed surprise that 60 years old SNMMCH has been denied the seats even when it has better infrastructure, teachers facilities than other medical colleges whom NMC has recently allowed 100 MBBS seats in 2021-22 sessions.
SNMMCH ( formerly known as Patliputra Medical College Hospital) earlier had 100 MBBS seats but in 2017, the then Medical Council of India reduced 50 MBBS seats due to deficiencies of infrastructure in the hospital and shortage of teachers in the college.
Recently, the NMC has permitted admission on 100 MBBS seats to merely two years old medical colleges of Dumka, Hazaribagh and Palamu which have no facilities of teachers, doctors and hospital infrastructure at par with SNMMCH Dhanbad.
“NMC on basis of its inspection on December 20, 2019 had pointed out three deficiencies in SNMMCH as 20% deficiencies of faculty-member, 27.42% deficiencies of resident doctors and non-Gallery type LT in hospital for increasing 50 MBBS seats (total 100). Health department has already appointed resident doctors and the shortage of faculty members is being plugged. Construction of an LT type gallery in the hospital is under progress. So, NMC should reinstate its 100 MBBS seats,” said PN Singh.
Dhanbad MP also said that from the treatment point of view, Dhanbad medical college keeps significance in the region as patients of eight to ten districts come here.
He has also shot off another letter to the additional chief secretary (health) Arun Kumar Singh to take up the issue of reinstating 100 MBBS seats in SNMMCH in the current academic session on priority basis.
