Ranchi, Jan 14: With the new mutated variant of Covid-19 grasping small children in the district under its reach, health experts believe that no special guidelines are required for the treatment of those.

As many as eight children below the age of 15 are admitted to both RIMS and Sadar Hospital Ranchi.

District Civil Surgeon Vinod Kumar said that no special guidelines have been rolled out for the treatment of children infected with corona infection. The symptoms are minor and are treated by providing paracetamol in case of fever with minimal use of antibiotics.

“No severe case of infection has been found in children till date and it has been seen that children are more immune to the virus. Though the virus has started infecting the children, the new strain of virus is not causing any fatalities,” Kumar said.

On the issue of children getting infected by the virus, Dr Ajit Kumar of Sadar Hospital said that with 32 mutations in the delta strain, the virus has started infecting children too which was not the case during the second wave.

“The point of relief is that the new strain of the virus is more infectious than the delta strain but not as dangerous as it was during the second wave,” Kumar said.

However, health experts suggest that though the strain of the virus known as Omicron is less dangerous than the previous one, there is no certainty that the virus will not mutate further.

“It has been noticed that young people are getting more infected which may be due to the fact that they are more engaged in jobs and education. The only precaution at present is keeping distance, wearing a mask, curbing the unnecessary movement and getting vaccinated,” a health expert said.
