Jamshedpur, Jan 14 : The current spell of unseasonal rain in Jharkhand, which is due to the impact of a western disturbance passing through northern hemisphere and an associated cyclonic circulation, will continue for another 24 hours,  said IMD officials on Thursday.

Several parts of southern Jharkhand including Kolhan on Friday witnessed light showers, overcast conditions and early morning shallow fog which reduced the surface visibility to as low as 500 meters between 6.30 and 8 am.

Jamshedpur, Ghatshila, Seraikela, Chaibasa, Khunti, Simdega, Ramgarh and several other places experienced intermittent light showes on Friday morning.

“Light to moderate rain will continue to take place in several parts of southern and central Jharkhand during the next 24-hours,” said  a weather analyst at  Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

He went on to say that there will be no significant change in minimum readings during the next 24- hours but the night readings are expected to witness an abrupt drop by two to four degrees Celsius after that  bringing back the chill and crisp weather, as the cloud cover and  moisture content in the atmosphere will gradually get reduced.

The inclement weather played spoilsport on Makar Sankranti celebration today.

Children could not fly kites, an age-old tradition on Makar Sankranti.

The forecast for Saturday says light showers and on Sunday fog and mist would prevail in the morning and later clear sky.

The inclement weather for the last few days had resulted in an abrupt rise in night readings in most places across the state including Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Daltonganj, Bokaro and Dhanbad.
