New Delhi, Jan 14: The Delhi Police on Friday recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered from an unattended bag found at the Ghazipur Flower Market in East Delhi. Soon after getting the information, Delhi police rushed a bomb disposal squad and fire engines to control the situation.
Around 1.5 kg of explosive material was recovered, a sizeable quantity capable of dealing heavy damage. The NSG conducted a controlled explosion to neutralise the IED.
Minutes after the incident, the Delhi police said, “a case has been registered in the Delhi police special cell under provisions of the Explosive Substances Act.”
“The Bomb Disposal Squad of NSG prima facie finds chemical compounds like RDX and Ammonium Nitrate in the manufacture of IED recovered from Ghazipur,” informed NSG Director General MA Ganapathy.
“A proper recce was done before planting the explosive outside the gate of East Delhi’s Ghazipur Flower Market. Police are checking CCTV footage to identify the accused,” said Delhi Police.
The weight of recovered IED recovered from Ghazipur was approximately 3 kg. NSG received information from Delhi Police around 11 am and the explosive was defused around 1.30 pm: NSG
